The CrossFit Games Open at CrossFit Conquest came to a close last month. It is important to look back and reflect, take notes on what went right, and what could have gone better. Every year I prepare as good as I can and then look back and take accountability of how it went. I am very pleased with the outcome this year, more so than almost all of my previous 15 opens with the exception of one.
Every year I get held up by weight, especially the deadlift. This year it came And I was able to handle it much better than in previous years. I trained just under the weight I knew would come. Never going over that weight, and never risking injury. When the wod came with the deadlift, I was ready. And it worked out just fine.
I also prepared my gymnastics differently this year. Took time to do much more volume on chest to bar pullups. It also paid off. Deadlifts and chest to bar pullups always seem to get to me every year. This year was smooth.
I didn't qualify for the next round, but I was absolutely thrilled with the performance this year. I felt strong, fit, and never felt in risk of injury. A win-win all around.
So please, look back at the open. It really is a great test of your fitness. And start working on your opportunities NOW. The 2026 Open will be here before you know it! Seek out a coach and ask for advice. Stay late after class and work on those skills. Go to Oly class on Thursdays. Trust me, HWPO!!!!
